Adding a modpack to your SimpleGameHosting server is extremely easy, and this guide covers everything you need to know about how you can add modpacks to your Minecraft server on SimpleGameHosting!
The first step is purchasing your SimpleGameHosting server.
⌨️ With that, it is worth knowing how much RAM you need for a server that is running a modpack.
How Much RAM Do Modpack Servers Need
Truly this depends on many factors. However, since modpacks servers aren’t really meant to have more than 5-10 players on them at a time, we’re going to assume that’s the max you’ll want and focus on how many mods a modpack had to determine the RAM you need.
👉 Check out our RAM Guide Calculator to find the perfect Minecraft server package for you!
- Vanilla Minecraft Server: 2 GB RAM
- Light Modpacks (fewer than 100 mods): 4-6 GB RAM
- Moderate Modpacks (100-200 mods): 6-8 GB RAM
- Heavy Modpacks (200+ mods): 8-10 GB+ RAM
⭐ If you are experiencing lag on your server after you install a modpack, most likely, you are running into a RAM issue, and upgrading your server may be needed.

If Switching from One Modpack to Another:
If you are switching modpacks, we recommend deleting all of the files on your server and starting fresh. Otherwise, issues may occur with your server not starting or crashing. Here is how to delete all of your server files:
- Make sure to Stop your server on the "Console" tab.
- Navigate to the "File Manager" tab in the menu bar.
- Select everything in the File Manager except the "eula.txt" file. Leave this file unchecked.
- Click "Delete" at the bottom of the panel.
- Finish deleting all of your server files by clicking the "Delete" button again on the pop-up that appears.
- All that should be left in the File Manager is the eula.txt file.
- Continue on with this guide on installing your modpack.

Then, click on click on the "Modpacks" option in the menu. This is the SimpleGameHosting Modpack Manager.
Step 3: Choose & Install a Modpack
Browse the modpacks list and find the modpack that you want to install on your server. Modpacks are organized by launcher, so make sure you select whether the modpack is on the CurseForge, Modrinth, FTB, Technic, or the VoidsWrath Launcher when searching for your modpack.
With the correct launcher selected, you can use the search box at the top of the page to locate a specific modpack.
📝 If a modpack isn’t on the list, reach out to our support team, and we will work on adding it.
Once you have found the modpack you want, click the "Version" drop-down. Choose the version of the modpack you want. We recommend selecting the one with the most recent "Released on:" date. This is usually the version at the bottom of the drop-down.
With the version selected, click the “Install” button on it.
A pop-up will appear confirming you want to install the modpack and that some files may be deleted in the process. Click the "Yes" button to continue.
The modpack installer will instantly start installing the modpack on your server. You will see a "Running Installer" pop-up on the Control Panel during this process.
Step 4: Start Your Server
To ensure that the modpack is correctly loaded and functional, start your Minecraft server using the Console in the control panel.
⚡ Once the server is back online, you and your players can enjoy the new modpack!
Joining a Minecraft Server with a Modpack
In order to join your Minecraft server once the modpack is installed, you and anyone who plays on the server will need to download and install the modpack locally. Then, they will need to launch the modpack and join your server with a Minecraft installation that has the modpacks and all of its mods installed. Using the launcher for that modpack is the best way to get it. Here are links to the apps for the modpack launchers we support.
Unfortunately, every modpack is different, but there are amazing guides for playing Minecraft with specific modpacks that you can follow to get your modpack installed locally to join your server.
❗ Again, you and the players on your server must have a modpack installed and be playing Minecraft with the modpack that is on your server installed in order to join the server and play the modpack.
