How to Reset the End on Your Minecraft Server

4 min. readlast update: 07.04.2025

If you are looking to refresh The End dimension for new End Cities or another Ender Dragon encounter, this guide will walk you through the steps to reset The End on your Minecraft server. Whether you are using Vanilla, Modded, or Paper or Purpur, we will also explain how to respawn the Ender Dragon.

Respawning The Ender Dragon

Resetting The End will not automatically respawn the Ender Dragon. To summon the Ender Dragon again, you will need to use End Crystals after defeating it the first time.

Step One: Crafting End Crystals

To begin, you will need four End Crystals to respawn the Ender Dragon. These can be crafted using the following materials:

  • Glass (x28)
  • Eye of Ender (x4)
  • Ghast Teas (x4)

Step Two: Placing thr End Crystals

Head back to The End and place the four End Crystals on the edges of the exit portal as shown in the image below. The crystals will activate and begin rebuilding the portal pillars, and then the Ender Dragon will respawn.

⚠️Heads up: Be prepared to fight again! You’ll only receive 500 XP for defeating the dragon a second time, compared to the 12,000 XP you earn the first time.

Resetting The End Dimension on Vanilla & Modded Servers

Resetting the End dimension is not something most servers need to do. It will not bring back the Ender Dragon, and in some cases, it can leave the End broken without a working portal or dragon.

That said, if you are looking to explore new End Cities or generate fresh End terrain, resetting the End is a good way to make that happen.

It is also possible to create the exit portal manually by using the same layout shown above and placing bedrock near the center of the End, around the 0 ~ 0 coordinates. From there, you can use End Crystals to respawn the dragon. Just keep in mind this method can be a bit tricky and may take some trial and error to get right.

⚠️ Note: You will want to backup your Minecraft server before resetting the end dimension This is due to end resets commonly breaking the end dimension.

Step One: Login to Your Control Panel

First, log in to your control panel and stop your server. You can do this by going to the Console tab and clicking the Stop button.

Once your server is stopped, head over to the File Manager tab.

Step Two: Navigate to your World Folder

Once in the file manager, locate the world folder and open it by clicking on it.

Step Three: Delete the Dimension (DIM)  Folder

Once you’re inside the world folder, find the DIM folder. Select it by clicking the box to the left, then look for the delete option that appears at the bottom. Click Delete and confirm when prompted by pressing the Delete button again.

You’re all set! Just start your server again by clicking the Start button on the Console tab, and the End will be reset and ready to explore.

Resetting The End on Paper/Purpur Servers

Just like vanilla and modded servers, resetting the end will NOT reset the ender dragon, and it can leave the end dimension broken with no portal.

We recommend backing up your server before resetting the end as it is very likely the end will break when resetting it.

Step One: Login to Your Control Panel

First, log in to your control panel and stop your server. You can do this by going to the Console tab and clicking the Stop button.

Once your server is stopped, head over to the File Manager tab.

Step Two: Delete the world_the_end Folder

In the file manager, locate the world_the_end folder. Once you’re inside the world folder, find the world_the_end folder. Select it by clicking the box to the left, then look for the delete option that appears at the bottom. Click Delete and confirm when prompted by pressing the Delete button again.

You’re all set! Just start your server again by clicking the Start button on the Console tab, and the End will be reset and ready to explore.
