How to Disable Firespread on a Minecraft Server

2 min. readlast update: 06.18.2024

Firespread is the mechanic in Minecraft that makes, well, fire spread! This can be destructive to your builds and other creations in your Minecraft world, so in this guide we will help you with disabling the feature on your Minecraft server!

✋Before you start!

Make sure you have OP (operator permissions) on your server before attempting to run these commands in-game! If you don't have op, these commands WILL NOT work in-game.

We have a guide on giving yourself operator permissions here.

👾In-Game Commands

Once you're opped, In-game, type /gamerule doFireTick false into your chat, and hit enter!

Once you do that you should get a confirmation in chat that looks something like this

And that's it! You have now disabled firespread on your Minecraft server!

If you ever wish to re-enable firespread, it's as simple as doing the same command as before, but swapping out false with true, like this!

And once again, you will get a confirmation in chat once you enter this command letting you know that firespread has been re-enabled

When you see that in chat, you'll know that you have re-enabled firespread!

⌨Console Commands

If you don't want to change firespread in game, you're in luck! There is also a way to do it from the console! Just type in gamerule doFireTick false into your console and hit enter! Make sure it's without the slash that was in the in-game command, if the slash is in there when putting it into the console, the command won't work!

You'll see a confirmation in your console log saying that the command was run successfully when entering the command.

And just like last time, to re-enable firespread all you have to do is type in gamerule doFireTick true into your console and hit enter.

You'll see another confirmation in chat again, telling you that you have re-enabled firespread.

When you see that message in your console, you'll know that firespread has been re-enabled!
