Minecraft Modpacks require a certain amount of RAM to run smoothly. If Minecraft keeps closing on its own when playing with a Modpack, you may need to assign more memory in the CurseForge launcher. In this guide, you’ll learn how to increase your RAM allocation in the CurseForge app, step by step.

⚠️Warning: This guide assumes you already have the CurseForge app and your chosen modpack installed. If you need help getting CurseForge or a modpack set up, check out our Help Guide!

How to Allocate More RAM to the CurseForge Launcher!

1. Launch the CurseForge app and click the ⚙gear icon at the bottom-left.

2. In the settings menu’s left sidebar, scroll down to Game Specific, then select Minecraft.

3. Scroll to Java Settings and locate the Allocated Memory slider.

💡Tip: Be sure to enable "Use modpack author’s recommended RAM settings when available" to help avoid memory allocation issues.

4. Move the orange slider to the amount you of RAM needed for the modpack. Then close the settings by clicking the back arrow button at the top left of the CurseForge app and your changes save automatically.

📝Note: Aim to set your allocation between 6000 MB and 10000 MB, but never exceed half of your computer or laptop's total RAM.

6. Start your modpack as usual on CurseForge. When you launch your modpack using CurseForge, you may see a warning about your RAM allocation being too low or too high. If it’s too low, just follow the steps above to increase it. If it flags too much RAM, you can safely ignore that alert and proceed.

7. 🎉You’re all set! You now know how to increase your RAM allocation in the CurseForge launcher.

💡Tip: You can verify your new RAM allocation in-game by pressing F3 and looking at the top-right corner.
