What Does Aqua Infinity Do in Minecraft?

3 min. readlast update: 07.07.2025

Aqua Affinity is a unique enchantment in Minecraft designed to improve how efficiently players can mine underwater. Whether you are building an ocean base or collecting resources from a lake or riverbed, this enchantment can save time and effort. In this article, we will explain what Aqua Affinity does, how it works, and the different ways to apply it to your gear.

What Aqua Affinity Does

Its main effect is to increase mining speed while underwater. Normally, breaking blocks underwater takes about five times longer than on land. If your character is floating while trying to mine, the process slows down even more, taking up to twenty-five times longer.

When you wear a helmet with Aqua Affinity, the underwater mining penalty is removed. This means you can mine blocks underwater just as quickly as you can on land. However, the enchantment does not reduce the mining penalty caused by floating. To get the full benefit, make sure your character is standing on a solid block while mining.

💡Tip: Aqua Affinity only has one level, known as Aqua Affinity I. There is no higher or upgraded version of this enchantment.

How to Apply Aqua Affinity to a Helmet

There are three main ways to add the Aqua Affinity enchantment to a helmet. Using an enchanting table, combining an enchanted book with an anvil, or using in-game commands.

Method One: Enchanting Table

1. Craft an enchanting table if you do not have one already.

2. Place the enchanting table on the ground and open it.

3. Insert the helmet into the left slot and add lapis lazuli to the right slot.

4. Hover over the enchantment options until Aqua Affinity...? appears, then click to apply it.

Method Two: Enchanted Book and Anvil

1. First, locate an enchanted book with Aqua Affinity. You can find these books in a few different ways:

  • By fishing
  • By trading with librarian villagers
  • Inside loot chests found in various structures
  • Spawning the item yourself in-game

2. Place an anvil on the ground.

3. Insert your helmet in the first slot and the enchanted book in the second.

Method Three: In-Game Command

🛑Wait: Make sure you have Operator permissions or commands enabled on your world. If you are qaserver owner, open the console type the below command and press ENTER:

op USERNAME (Replace USERNAME with your Minecraft name)

2. In-game, hold the helmet you want to enchant.

3. Press T to open the chat box, then type the following command:
/enchant USERNAME minecraft:aqua_affinity 1

4. Press Enter. If successful, you will receive a message confirming the enchantment was applied.

Now that you know how to find and use the Aqua Affinity enchantment, you are ready to enhance your underwater mining experience. Good luck, and enjoy your adventures beneath the surface!
