Home of the Creaking, the Pale Garden is a gray, desolate land that rarely spawns within the Overworld. The Pale Garden biome was added into Minecraft as part of the 1.21.2 Winter Drop. This guide will go over the basics of the Pale Garden, and orient you as to what to expect from it
General Information
The Pale Garden itself is a wasteland-esque area filled with Pale Oak and Moss. It can easily be identified by the soulless gray that paints the landscape, as well as the absence of a soundtrack upon entering the biome. It is also home to the unique flower known as the Eyeblossum.
The Pale Garden itself is extremely rare, with only an approximate .7% presence within the overworld, according to the biome's wiki.
Mobs Within the Pale Garden
Color is not the only thing absent within the Pale Garden. Passive mobs do not spawn within this biome, so finding one within will be extremely difficult at best. Come prepared with food and other supplies, as you will not be able to find much of it here.
In their place, you will find most overworld hostile mob spawns instead, being zombies, skeletons, creepers, and other mobs of that variety. Because of the dense forest, hostile mobs can even spawn during the daylight, if an area underneath the treeline is dark enough. But perhaps the deadliest among them is the Creaking, an ambush mob that easily blends in with the gray foliage around it. For more information about the Creaking, please check our guide on it here.
When entering the Pale Garden, be aptly prepared. Being ambushed by a Creaking or other mobs here is likely a death sentence waiting to happen.
Tips for Surviving the Pale Garden
The Pale Garden is a hostile place. It is not recommended to enter if you're not ready for a fight or three, as danger can and likely will be lurking around every tree once night falls.
1. Bring Extra Food
Think you have enough food on you? Think again! Food is your lifeline when exploring here, as there will likely not be anything or anyone to give you extra once you enter the Pale Garden (well, except for Rotten Flesh. You might have plenty of that, if you just love the Hunger status effect. Hey, I don't judge). Managing your hunger and health will be much easier with some surplus steaks or other high-saturation foods.
2. Brew Potions
If you have the capability of doing so (or if you've just gotten lucky with loot), bring some potions with you for your journey, namely Night Vision and Regeneration/Instant Health. The Pale Garden is naturally dark, and only gets darker at night. The extra sight will always be a good thing to have, especially when a Creaking can be lurking nearby.
3. Bring a Good Axe
A Creaking's bane is the destruction of its linked Creaking Heart. If you destroy a Creaking's heart, it will be killed instantly, and will no longer be able to haunt you throughout your journey. The better your axe, the faster you can destroy the heart. Better yet, a Silk Touch axe can harvest Creaking Hearts for personal use later.
4. Watch Your Back
Creakings can only move when you are not actively looking at them. Keep your wits about you, stay alert, and check behind you from time to time to prevent a Creaking from turning your happy adventures into a grim tale. This also goes for Creepers, because you never know.
