Help CenterDistant Horizons is a performance mod for Minecraft that increases the load distance of Minecraft without sacrificing performance by simplifying the rendering of, well, distant horizons. It is fairly lightweight, and rarely causes problems.
⚠️ IMPORTANT: Despite the mod's description, Distant Horizons normally causes problems when added to a server. Do NOT add this mod to your server!
Downloading Distant Horizons
First off is getting a version of Distant Horizons. It comes for Fabric, Forge, and NeoForge for a multitude of Minecraft versions. To begin, select whichever mod loader you want to use and find your Minecraft Version. In this case, I'll be installing Distant Horizons for Fabric 1.21.5!
Navigate to the versions tab and find your version. I'll be using CurseForge's website for this process:
Once we've found our version, we can approach it one of two ways:
If you're using the CurseForge app, you can automatically install the mod by using the install button on the version you want!
Otherwise, you'll want to press the download file button so we can prep the mod for installation.
NOTE: Depending on the version you install, you'll need to also install the respective mod loader! Be sure to check out your loader's specific website for installers and their specific instructions if you do not have one installed!
Installing the Mod
Now that we have our mod for the loader we want, we'll now begin the process of actually installing the mod. You'll want to find your mod folder. In our instance, we'll use the CurseForge app to make a profile and add the mod there. If you haven't already, create a profile, then right click it and press Open Folder:
Next, grab the mod file you just downloaded, and put it within the mods folder:
If done right, the mod should now show in the profile! From there, just hit the play button to open the Minecraft launcher, then play again through the Launcher to launch the game!
Configuring Distant Horizons
Distant Horizons' config can be accessed by going into options:
Then pressing this fancy little button next to the FOV slider:
And you'll be met with a new screen with all the configurable options:
