Schematics are essentially a "blueprint" design that WorldEdit, alongside other third party programs, can use to paste a structure into your world using a .schem file (also called .schematic files). This allows you to quickly place structures you have created, or ones you have downloaded online, such as from Minecraft Schematics. This guide will briefly explain how to use one of these files within WorldEdit.
Getting a Schematic File
Schematic files can be obtained either through downloading one online, or by saving a design from your clipboard in WorldEdit.
Saving Your Own Design
Selecting Your Build
To select your build, you'll want to use the Wand Tool. The Wand Tool essentially allows you to mark an area as your selection. To access this tool, you can use the default, a Wooden Axe, or bind the tool to another item using /tool selwand, like so:

This will bind my Wooden Sword to the Wand Tool, and allow me to use it as such.

To use the tool, simply left click on one corner of the build

Then Right-Click the opposite corner (this will have to be the corner diagonally across for a square shaped area)

The area is now selected

You can find more tips and useful information from this video here:
Saving the Schematic
To save your own Schematic, you'll need to select the area you want to save with the Wand tool and use the //copy command:

Afterward, you can then use the command /schematic save <filename>, where you'll replace <filename> with the name of the file you wish to create.

In this case, this will save as TutorialTest.schem.
The file will save inside your Minecraft instance's Config folder under WorldEdit, as shown here:

From an Online Source
You may also download a schematic file online from a reputable source, one of which is Minecraft Schematics. In our case, I will be using splinteredvoyagers Mansion as an example. You may download this from their website:

Then place it in the Schematics folder

Pasting the Schematic
Perfect, we've got schematics ready, now how do we use them?
Simple! Run the following command:
/schematic load <filename>
Replacing <filename> with the name of the schematic file you want to load. In our case, I'll start with TutorialTest

Tip: you can also use /schematic load to see all available schematics in your WorldEdit's config folder!
It'll get placed onto your WorldEdit's clipboard:

Which you can then load with //paste
