How To Enable/Disable The Nether on a Minecraft Server

The Nether is a dimension that is full of fire and scary monsters! If you aren't interested in dealing with any of that then this guide will cover how to disable it! Once disabling the Nether, you or anybody on your server will not be able to access it any longer. If you change your mind, you will also learn how to re-enable it in this guide!

🛑 Heads up! The Nether is needed for a lot of things in Minecraft, before moving forward be sure that you don't need anything from the Nether before disabling it!

Step 1: Logging Into The Game Panel

To begin the process of disabling Firespread on your Minecraft server, you first need to access the SimpleGameHosting Control Panel

1. Open a new tab in your browser and navigate to panel.simplegamehosting.com

2. Enter your login credentials in the provided field and click the Login button.

3. After logging in successfully, you’ll be taken to the Console tab for your server. If you have more than one server, you’ll first see a dashboard listing all your available servers. Just click on the one you want to manage.

4. Make sure to turn the server offline on your Console tab by pressing the Stop button.

🛑Wait: Before you continue, make sure that your server has fully shut down. Once complete, you will often see the console display "Server marked as offline...".

Step 2: Disabling The Nether

1. Inside your File Manager, look for the file called "server.properties" and click on it to open it. 

2. Once you open the server.properties file, find a line in there that says allow-nether and change the value from true to false if you want to disable the nether.

3. Then hit Save Content to save the changes.

If you instead want to enable the nether, just change it from false to true

Step 3: Restarting Your Server

To apply the changes, you'll need to restart your server. Click the Console button at the top of the Panel, then press Start or Restart. Once the server is back online, the End dimension will be enabled or disabled based on the setting you chose in the configuration file.
