Here’s a quick guide on how to change the View Distance on your SimpleGameHosting Minecraft server.
View Distance determines how many chunks players can see and how far the world is rendered around them. The maximum value differs between versions. Java Edition allows up to 32, while Bedrock Edition can go as high as 92.
📝 Important: The higher you set this value, the more resources your server will need. Increasing it too much can cause lag or performance issues, especially on lower RAM plans or servers already using most of their memory.
Changing Your Minecraft Server's View Distance
Step 1: Logging Into The Game Panel
To begin the process of adding an icon to your Minecraft server, you first need to access the SimpleGameHosting Control Panel.
1. Open a new tab in your browser and navigate to panel.simplegamehosting.com.
2. Enter your login credentials in the provided field and click the Login button.
3. After logging in successfully, you’ll be taken to the Console tab for your server. If you have more than one server, you’ll first see a dashboard listing all your available servers. Just click on the one you want to manage.
Step 2: Safely Shutting Down Your Server
On your servers Console tab, you can safely stop your server from here by hitting the red Stop button in the terminal/console window.
🛑Wait: Before you continue, make sure that your server has fully shut down. Once complete, you will often see the console display "Server marked as offline...".
Step 3: Changing the View Distance
There are two ways to change the View Distance on your SimpleGameHosting Minecraft server. This setting controls how far players can see and how many chunks are loaded around them.
⚠️Note: A higher view distance increases load on the server, especially on lower RAM plans.
Option 1: Edit the server.properties File
1. Go to the File Manager tab in your panel.
2. Open the server.properties
file.
3. Look for the line that starts with view-distance=.
4. Change the number to your desired value.
- Java Edition max: 32
- Bedrock Edition max: 92
🤔Keep in mind: Higher view distances can cause lag or performance drops on smaller servers due to increased chunk loading.
5. Once updated, click Save Content in the top-right corner.
6. Head back to the Console tab and click Start or Restart to apply the changes.
Option 2: Use the Settings Tab
1. Navigate to the Settings tab on your panel.
2. Find the View Distance dropdown menu.
3. Select your preferred from the list.
4. Click Save Changes at the bottom-right corner of the page. This will restart the server and apply the changes.
