How To Change the Version of Your Minecraft Server

2 min. readlast update: 11.17.2025

In preparation for your next Minecraft adventure, you may need to change your server to a specific version in order to install certain mods or simply to get it up to date with the current version of Minecraft. Regardless of the reason, this guide will be a brief introduction on how to change the version to your liking.

Step 1: Log into your panel

First off, log into your panel account by visiting this link

Then, find your server and press "Manage Server" on the server you wish to modify

Step 2: Backing Up/Clearing Data

Note: Backing up is optional. You do not need to do so if you have no data you're not willing to lose!

Before changing versions, it is very wise to make a backup of your server first. To do so, enter the backups tab, then create a new backup. Ensure the backup has completed before continuing. Failure to do so may result in data loss or corruption!

Afterwards, you may now enter the File Manager. Select all the files within except for EULA.txt, then press the Delete button.

You should be left with just the EULA.txt file. If you've accidentally deleted this file, do not worry. You'll only get a popup next time you launch the server asking you to accept the EULA of Minecraft.

Step 3: Installing the New Version

Great, our server's now in a clean slate and ready to install a new version. Now, just head over to the Modpacks & Versions tab, then navigate to the Version Manager.

Here, we can select a loader, and a Minecraft version. In our case, I'm simply going to install Forge for Minecraft 1.21.10. To do so, select Forge from the dropdown list, then press Install on the 1.21.10 from the list of versions below:

Allow the installation to complete. Once it is done, you may head back to the Console tab, then start the server!
