In this guide, we will show you how to change your server's gamemode and individual player's gamemodes on a Minecraft server! This will allow you to change your server or specific players to creative mode, spectator mode, survival mode, or any other Minecraft gamemode you would like.
There are two easy ways to do this through your SimpleGameHosting control panel, and the steps below will guide you through both options so you can configure your servers game mode how you'd like!
Option 1: Editing the Server's Settings
To start, you’ll need to log in to the SimpleGameHosting Game Control Panel. If you haven’t done this before, we have a full guide that walks you through the process step by step.
1. Head to your server’s Settings tab and scroll down until you see the Game Mode option.
2. Use the dropdown menu to choose the game mode you want for your server. After selecting it, click the Save Changes button. When the confirmation popup appears, choose Save and Restart to apply the new settings.
Option 2: Editing the "server.properties" File
To start, you’ll need to log in to the SimpleGameHosting Game Control Panel. If you haven’t done this before, we have a full guide that walks you through the process step by step.
1. Click on the File Manager tab in the menu bar. This is where all of your server's files and folders can be accessed.
2. In the File Manager, find the server.properties file and click on it to open it and start editing the file.
3. Find the "gamemode=" line. This is where you will be able to set and define the gamemode for your Minecraft server.
You can set it to one of the four options listed below.
- survival
- creative
- spectator
- adventure
- For example, setting the line to "gamemode=creative" will change your server's gamemode to Creative mode for any new players that join.
4. Make to click the Save Content button in order to ensure your server is updated.
💡Tip: You can set the "force-gamemode=" setting to "force-gamemode=true" in order to make everyone who joins your server go into the gamemode you set include players who have joined previously. If you change this, make sure to click the Save Content button when complete.
5. Finally, head back to the Console tab and click the Start or Restart button your server to change the gamemode!
You're done! You have now changed the gamemode on your Minecraft server!
Changing Individual Player's Gamemodes
If you don't want to change your server's entire gamemode, you can change the gamemode of you or another player. You'll need to have Operator permission to be able to use commands.
1. You can give operator permissions to yourself in the console by typing "op YOURUSERNAME" without the quotes, for example:
2. Once in game, you can type: /gamemode creative
- This will set yourself into creative mode. Replacing creative with another gamemode such as survival would change your gamemode to that.
- If you wish to make everyone in the server creative, you can add @a after creative. Here's an example:
/gamemode creative @a
- You can also set specific players gamemodes with this command.
/gamemode creative PLAYERUSERNAME
In both of the above commands, you can replace creative with survival, spectator, or adventure if you want to use another gamemode.
