A Guide to Respawn Anchors in Minecraft

The Respawn Anchor is an item in Minecraft that allows for setting a spawn point within the Nether, allowing you to quickly get back in action after an untimely demise beyond the portal. We'll quickly go over their construction and use in this guide.

Construction

Respawn Anchors require three Glowstone and six Crying Obsidian. Normal Obsidian will not cut it here. To construct a Respawn Anchor, use a crafting table with the following layout:

Congrats, you now have a new Respawn Anchor!

Usage

Respawn Anchors have to be charged using Glowstone before they can be utilized. Each Respawn Anchor can take four charges, with one charge being restored with each Glowstone Block. The yellow dot in the center will fill as the charges increase, and it will glow brightest when full.

Once it is charged, right-click it to set your respawn point to the Anchor. You'll get a message that your respawn point was set, and the Anchor will play a sound.

Once that is done, your respawn point is set.

And you'll be right back next to your Anchor once you spawn back in.

With a keen eye, you'll notice that a portion of the yellow orb has disappeared due to my perishing. This means a charge has been used up, and I can use the Anchor three more times before it runs out of power. Be sure you keep your Anchor charged!

A Word of Warning

Anchors can be obstructed if there are no spots within a 3x3x3 cube around it to spawn you in. Be sure to leave a space around it that can't be blocked off or obstructed, or you'll be sent back to the Overworld.

Anchors can NOT be used in the End, and will explode, much like a bed if you attempt to use them there. Unless you're planning on using it as an expensive bomb, it's not worth bringing one to the End, so leave them for the Nether.
