Help CenterJust Enough Items (JEI) is a popular mod for Minecraft that simply displays available items and their recipes/uses using a useful search tool within your inventory. This mod is nearly an essential for most modpacks, as it can immensely assist with figuring out exactly what you need in order to build the items you require to progress in your world.
The UI
Once you have Just Enough Items installed properly, you'll find that your inventory has a new decoration:
Do note that this will still be available in Survival.
Searching Items
In the bottom right, you'll have access to a search bar. Much like creative mode's search functions, you may input the name of any block or item to search for it
You can also use using mod names by using the @ symbol in front of it. In my case, I don't have any other mods installed, but for the sake of showing:
It is now showing all items related to base game minecraft. If I had other mods installed, this would filter out anything not found in normal minecraft.
Recipes
Gotta figure out how to craft something? JEI has you covered. While hovering over an item, press the Show Recipe button (Default: R) in order to pop up a new menu that will show the exact recipe for the item you want:
For items that have multiple crafting recipes or sources, you will be able to cycle through their respective menus using the arrows or the icons. Stairs, for example, can be made either through stonecutters or crafting tables:
Uses
Got an item but no idea what to do with it? Guess what, JEI has that too! Pressing the Show Uses button (Default: U) will pop up a UI panel of every crafting recipe that includes the selected item. For example, cobblestone:
Bookmarking
Got a recipe you want quick access to? Press the bookmark icon next to the recipe you're wanting and it'll be sent to the left side!
Quick Craft
So you've gotten your items, and you've gotten a table or other workbench ready to craft with. Simply press the + icon while in the required workbench and the items will be automatically moved into their respective locations!
You can also shift-click this icon to move as many items into their respective slot as possible, very useful for bulk crafting:
